Slumber Party Series Part Three: Sheets, Duvets & A Giveaway

Happy National Sleep Awareness Week and welcome to part three of the Slumber Party series! This installment is all about my favorite duvets and sheets. But first, a giveaway!

I’ve teamed up with Slumbr, which is a company that makes the most amazing pillows (they make you relax faster than a valium and champagne) and Poéthique, which is an eco-luxe brand of 100% plant-based skincare products.

Everything you need to know is on Instagram. Good luck. You can also click here for the official rules and other things the law requires me to post, etc.

Now let’s get the party started on bedding. I’m a duvet girl and down insert (aka down comforter) kind of girl. I know some people like regular comforters and no duvet, but I don’t. Sorry. If you enjoy a good comforter vs duvet debate, there’s a great post on Apartment Therapy.

Also, I know there are alternatives to down, but for me, there is no alternative. Would you rather drift off to sleep in a comfy cloud of down or sandwiched between clumps of cotton/polyester fill? Didn’t think so. Down is just so lux. Furthermore, a decent down comforter will last you forever. I took my parents’ old one with me to college and I still use it for guests to this day. Honestly, it's probably like 15 years old at this point. So buy the real thing. It's worth it.

Here are some of my favorite duvets along with sheet suggestions for maximum style and comfort.

Dwell Studio Chinoserie Duvet

If you couldn’t tell from the picture above with my dogs, I love my Dwell Studio Chinoserie Duvet. It’s soft, stylish and looks good with any style of bed or headboard. As they say in Portlandia, put a bird on it

Marimekko Kesahelle Sheets

While I’m normally not a fan of mixing patterns, I really like the way Marimekko’s Keashelle sheets coordinate with the Dwell Studio duvet. The stripes contrast the birds without getting too busy.

Missoni Patrick Duvet

Missoni bedding is kind of my dream. It’s Italian (omg, do you feel a Dresses to Decor coming on, I know I do!) and impossible to mistake for anything else. The Patrick Duvet provides a great focal point for a room, especially if you have simple bedroom furniture.

Sky 500 Thread Count Sheet Set

If you’re going to have a Missoni duvet, you can’t go crazy with patterned sheets unless you want to give the person you are sleeping with a seizure. Sky’s 500 Thread Count Sheets are available in two perfect colors to work with the Missoni Duvet, which are orange (I get it, not for everyone) and lavender (the safer choice).

Anthropologie Georgina Duvet

Anthropologie’s Georgina Duvet is like that person who walks into the party and everyone stares and gasps at their beauty. An interesting update of the Shabby Chic style, it is available in white and cream as well as the muted blue color that is pictured.

Anthropologie Embroidered Sateen Sheet Set

With a classic scalloped edge, Anthropologie’s Embroidered Sateen Sheet Set is the perfect compliment to balance the Georgia Duvet. Remember, no one wants to get busy in a bed that looks too busy.

Anthropologie Tolouse Duvet

The Toulouse Duvet by Anthropologie is what you choose if the person you are sharing your bed with thinks the Georgina is too feminine for their taste. A little more muted and modern, it has just enough ruffle going on.

Sweet Home Collection 1800 Thread Count Sheets

Sweet-Home-Collection-1800-Thread-Count-Sheet-Set.jpg

Dark on dark starts to look goth. Don’t be a downer. The crisp mint color of these shockingly affordable 1800 thread count sheets from Sweet Home Collection is a fresh compliment to the dark Tolouse Duvet.

Serena & Lilly Cherry Duvet

Serena & Lilly’s Cherry duvet is technically kids bedding (so it’s only available in twin and full/queen sizes, boo), but it was too cute not to include in this roundup. What adult wouldn’t love these cheery cherries?  I die for this to dress up a guest room.

Comphy Sheets

Sometimes, less is more. I think if you are going to use a fun fruit print duvet, plain white sheets are best. And I found the most comfortable ones are from a brand called Comphy. I swear, I can’t make this up.

I discovered these sheets when I was getting acupuncture from Colette Widrin at Askeo Theraputics last week. She had the softest sheets on her table. I was literally never so comfortable having someone insert needles into me. Comphy sheets are made from magic, clouds and microfiber from heaven.

Dresses To Decor: Ralph Lauren (No Relation) Edition

Welcome to Dresses To Decor, the series where I discuss the decor lines of my favorite clothing designers. Ralph Lauren, who I am not related to (because I know you were wondering), is one of the greatest American designers. Known for his sophisticated cable knits, prints, and the ubiquitous polo pony logo, the brand is synonymous with classic looks that are just as stylish today as they will be in fifty years. The same applies to the label's extensive home line with things to enhance every single room. Here are a few of my favorites and must haves.

Palmer Bath Sheets

Ralph Lauren Palmer Bath Sheets are my favorite towels of all time. At 35 X 72, they’re big, fluffy and fabulous to wrap yourself up in. These towels are kind of magical and will make you feel like a VIP at a spa every time you get out of the shower. Available in 25 different colors (I can’t even think of 25 colors off the top of my head), they will match everything. If you like your towels extra fancy, have them monogrammed. And you should because if couldn't tell from the site's logo, I so heart monograms.

Whitney Cashmere Throw Blanket

Whitney Cashmere Throw Blanket

My personal rule for life is that friends don’t let friends wear wool blends. This applies to both sweaters and throws. There is nothing quite as lux as a cashmere throw sitting on your couch, especially the Whitney Cashmere Throw with its chic ruffled edges. With six colors available and sized at a generous 60 X 60, it’s a great way to upgrade your Netflix and Chill.

Amalfi Coast Diffuser

Designed in the style of a perfume bottle, the Amalfi Coast home fragrance diffuser is a must. With notes of fig leaf, cassis, blonde woods, and galbanum, who wouldn’t their home to smell like the Amalfi Coast of Italy? It also makes a no-brainer hostess gift.

Audrey Dinnerware Collection

If any dinnerware set deserves a #adulting label, the Audrey Collection is it. Rimmed in 24k gold, the pattern is inspired by a hand-painted silk garment. Made in Portugal of porcelain, (so that's where it actually comes from), don’t forget these delicates dishes are not dishwasher safe. But, they're so worth it for special occasions. Teacups with saucers, as well as dinner, bread, and salad plates are available.

Spalding Stripe Wallpaper

When wallpaper came back in style, I cheered. It’s such a pretty way to decorate a hallway, dining room or to accent just one wall of your bedroom. Ralph Lauren’s Spalding Stripe is simple, clean and works for a variety of styles.

Cantwell Ice Bucket

The Cantwell Ice Bucket is absolutely stunning. Handmade of lead crystal in Hungary, it features a brown saddle leather cover. Embossed with a Ralph Lauren logo, it’s a truly unique piece. And yes, the leather comes off so you can wash it without needing to take a valium first.

Preston Bar Tool Set

Preston bar tools

I've already professed my love for the Preston Bar Tool Set in my post about bar cart styling, so if you're already in the know, feel free to skip over the next sentences. Featuring an ice shovel, jigger and bottle opener, Preston is extremely modern and functional.  There’s also a matching martini shaker. And because I personally have this set, let me answer your question right now. Yes, the leather can get wet. No, it doesn’t get ruined. Just be careful and you will be fine.

Ashlyn Bedding

Ashlyn Bedding

Bold floral prints are classic Ralph Lauren style. The Ashlyn bedding line reminds me of a spring day. It also might be the perfect choice for a guest room. You could even skip the duvet or comforter (I’m a total duvet girl, but I understnad how they are completely annoying) and just use the sheets and pillowcases to break up a solid comforter. I also think your in-laws and parents would absolutely love this.

Coffee Table Books

Coffee table books are an easy and affordable way to dress up your coffee table or enhance a bookshelf.  You can also leave a coffee table book out and everyone who comes over will think you actually read. Ralph Lauren has several including Speed Style and Beauty: Cars From The Ralph Lauren Collection, Ralph Lauren (surprising title, I know), and Vogue On Ralph Lauren.

Big Pony Dog Polo

Okay, so this Polo for your pooch isn’t technically decor, but I don’t care because it’s so darn cute. Perhaps they kind of are because we all know that dogs, polos and especially dogs in polos are an instant way to upgrade a room.

Dresses To Decor: Roberta Roller Rabbit Edition

Hello Bunnies! Welcome to Dresses To Décor, an ongoing series that explores labels with equally fabulous clothing and home lines. Today's post is about one of my favorite designers, Roberta Roller Rabbit. She is a D2D superstar because she uses many of the same prints for both.

So, who is Roberta Roller Rabbit? It’s #GirlBoss Roberta Freymann, who started the company in 2003. The bunny branding was inspired by a scrap of fabric she found in India. Every single garment they make is unique because the fabric is printed from wood blocks that were hand-carved in India. It's even more artisanal than craft brewed beer. From dresses (or kurtas) to duvets and dog beds, this bunny teaches us to never underestimate the power of the print.

Naolin

The Naolin Inez dress is fabulous on its own, but can also be layered all year round. For a boho look in the winter, wear it underneath a thick white sweater. In the spring and fall, chic up your Inez with a denim jacket. It even works as a swimsuit coverup in the summer.

Naolin also looks beautiful in any bedroom, as a focal point with this bedding set or as an accent with pillows. Just don't fall asleep in your dress. That's Naolin overload!

Jemina

Jemina is a vibrant print available in several colors including pink, blue, and red. I love the Jemina kurta! If you aren't familiar with kurtas (no judgement, I had no idea what they were until last week), they are a traditional Indian style tunic top made of a loose, breathable cotton.

The Jemina quilt can dress up a plain couch and make those Netflix binges so comfortable, your SmartTv will probably ask if you are still watching. (On that note, does anyone else feel like they're being judged when that happens?) As with the rest of these prints, an accent pillow is available incase you don't want to go full-on Jemina.

Monkey

Throw a jungle party and have the whole family monkey around in matching pajamas for men, women, children and even babies. A classic Roberta Roller Rabbit print, Monkey is fun and whimsical.

For your youngest guests, the monkey sleepover bag is perfect for camping inside and an easier alternative to an air mattress (I always have a panic attack trying to seal those things up after removing the pump) or trundle bed (have you ever tried to pop up one of those things without needing to see a chiropractor the next day?).

But don't let your furry friends feel left out. Puppy or kitty will delightfully pass out on this crate liner, which you could probably use as a regular pet bed. Seriously, if my bulldog didn't have a tendency to pee on them, this picture would be of my living room.

Amanda

How could I fail to mention my namesake print? I'm all about this super stylish kimono. I also love the Bondi Beach Bag. Not just because it's cute, but because it's machine washable. If you frequently read this blog, you know anything that is machine washable gets extra bonus points.

You can also Amandafy your tabletop with these fun placemats and cloth napkins.

Chasca

Chasca feels like chevron 2.0 to me. A year-round print, you can wear the wool scarf to brighten up a winter white coat, or maximize your comfort with this fab maxi dress in the summer.

Chasca can also transform a monochromatic bedroom with a matching duvet and pillow case set. Then you can accessorize the room in a variety of color choices. The possibilities to have lots of colorful things that will ultimately collect dust are endless.

Furniture

Roberta Roller Rabbit has some of the most unique furniture I've ever seen. When I looked at the collection in person at their store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, my jaw literally dropped and I told my mother who was shopping with me, to take notes.

With its eclectic style, featuring crossed stainless steel legs and a mother-of-pearl top, the writing desk is absolutely my favorite piece in the collection. Add an antique mirror and it can transform into a vanity.

The beside table can also be a couchside table, or accent table. Don't let labels be limiting, it looks beautiful anywhere in your home.

The nesting table set is a unique addition to a traditional living room. Because it's a set of two tables, you can use them separately, making this a more cost-affective purchase (or a good way to justify buying it).
