So Last Week...All Decor Edition

pexels-photo-311398.jpeg

Happy Sunday! I’ve had decor on my mind a lot lately. Part of it is because Ali and I have recorded several episodes of our podcast at my place. I love my apartment, but to be honest, it still feels 90% finished to me. Like I haven’t put the cherry on top of a delicious ice cream sundae. There are still a few projects I have left to do. Either way, it’s a rental, so I can’t make any major changes here, but I think I’ll find the time to get my space to 100% before the end of 2017.

But, no matter what state my home is in, I’m always obsessed with design. I just can’t resist looking at looking décor, furniture and renovation blogs. Here are some posts I came across this week. As always, they’re so last week, but totally worth your time.

York Avenue Blog: NYC Studio Apartment Home Tour

Jacqueline Clair has one of the most darling NYC studio apartments I’ve ever seen. She recently moved out and I’m hankering to see how she decorates her new place. Although my current apartment is a good size, her style and use of space continues to inspire me.

Design Indulgence: What To Buy At Ikea

Personally, I’m not the biggest Ikea shopper because the store is so large, I feel like I’m stuck in a Swedish maze of torture. Luckily, this post has some interesting ideas of what to buy there.

Becki Owens: Get The Look Las Palmas Master Bathroom

This bathroom is seriously #goals. Even if you aren’t renovating, check out the gorgeous accessory picks. I want everything!

The Inspired Room: Tiny Bedroom Ideas

These are some great ideas to give a cozy space extra big style. If warm and inviting is what you like, then this is your post.

Style By Emily Henderson: How To Get That Effortless Expensive California Look On A Budget

If you are a fan of white wood floors, which is personally one on my favorite design elements, you will especially appreciate this post. Emily Henderson presents some beautiful and very affordable decorating ideas. She also talks budgets and keeps it real, which I just love and so relate to.

Things We're Too Lazy To Blog About Podcast: Bad Malls & Fast Fashion

In episode two, Ali and Amanda talk about malls, the good the bad and the ones that desperately need to be bulldozed. Growing up in NYC (Amanda) and the suburbs (Ali), shopping anxiety, NYC Bloomingdales, strange SoCal chain stores, and our shared love of The Caruso Family (not the actor David Caruso). They also dish on fast fashion, H&M, Zara, Forever 21 (FOREVER), dressing room disasters with our moms, clothing care tips and velvet hangers. Ali spills some secrets about working with Lisa Vanderpump, not spending money on trends, fake vs faux, and so much more.

Don’t forget, you can earn extra karma points by listening, subscribing and by leaving us a five star review on iTunes. But obvs, you can also listen below.

By the way, after the episode was recorded, Amanda saw some of the renovations at the Beverly Center and they were awful. It’s still the third realm of Hell.

Trina Turk Opens on Larchmont

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you probably know I live near Larchmont Village in Los Angeles and that I absolutely adore Trina Turk.  Being from the East Coast, I have a deep appreciation for prints. So, obviously, this is a label I'm obsessed with.

When I first moved to Los Angeles from New York, I remember going to the Trina Turk store on Third Street to buy Cali appropriate clothing. However, last year the store closed without warning. I was really sad. Not kidding. I was even there for what I didn’t know was the final sale. Forced to get my Trina fix at their outlet in South Pasadena or just buy it at all of the other stores where the line is sold, I still really missed their charming Third Street location.

So, when I found out they were opening up a new boutique in my neighborhood, it was as if my wish came true. I even briefly considered asking my credit card company to increase my limit. Just kidding. Kind of…

Yay! Trina Turk is here!

Yay! Trina Turk is here!

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the opening party. It was probably the nicest store opening I’ve ever been to. There were cocktails from Jardesca and local eats from Burger Lounge and Salt and Straw ice cream. There were so many people (mostly wearing prints, if you were wondering) who came out to support this wonderful addition to Larchmont Boulevard. The store was packed with wall-to-wall people. Even Trina and her husband, Jonathan were there. I wanted to say hello, but I was afraid of coming off like a creepy fan girl. I also saw Tom Sandoval from Vanderpump Rules. His outfit did not rule. No, Arianna was not there. (At least six people have asked me this question.)

Obviously, I was impressed with the clothing but the store itself was equally stylish. Designed by Bestor Architecture in a mid century modern style, the wood paneled walls and tile floors reminded me of the Palm Springs flagship location.

It's not desert chic, it's just chic!

It's not desert chic, it's just chic!

Pretty prints!

Pretty prints!

The store had everything including clothing for men and women as well as accessories. I wanted all of the handbags!

Sunglasses are absolutely essential.

There was also a photobooth! Here I am with my friend Farah.

Now that I can go to Trina Turk whenever I want, expect a whole lot more prints in my wardrobe!

Dressing Like The Stars: The People's Choice Awards 2017 Edition

When it comes to the People’s Choice Awards, it doesn’t really matter who wins or loses, as long as they look good on the red carpet. Honestly, I didn’t watch the show and couldn't even be bothered to find out who the winners were. As far as I'm concerned, the red carpet is the main event.  After all, awards season isn't simply a time to watch a bunch of people you don't know give speeches you don't want to listen to. It's about finding new inspiration for those nights when you need to look extra fabulous (or at the very least, when you must get out of sweatpants). Luckily, you don't need a stylist or an unlimited bank account to dress like the stars. Here are my favorite looks from the event last night alongside some similar, more affordable styles that will make you look so good, you might just get chased by the paparazzi (your friend with one of those cameras not designed to make phone calls).

Blake Lively

Blake Lively topped all of the best dressed lists in Elie Saab. Top everyone at your next event in these fringe-tastic dresses by Aidan Mattox and French Connection.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra made everyone blush in Sally LaPointe, but you can make everyone swoon in Misa and Forever 21.

Ruby Rose

Blaze the red carpet (or the carpet at your office) like Ruby Rose in her Veronica Beard suit with these lookalikes from Vince Camuto and Express.

Ashley Greene

Ashley Greene went purple in Jeffrey Dodd. These dresses from Adrianna Papell and Diane Von Furstenberg share the same stylish, but reserved vibe at a fraction of the price.

Fifth Harmony

This might be the only time Fifth Harmony can be described as neutral. Look equally harmonious in these fabulous frocks by Reverse, Paper Crown and Amsale.

Keltie Knight

Own the night like Keltie in your own striking green dress from Women's Social or  Boohoo.

Lilly Singh

Look anything but lame in lamé in Topshop and Nicole Miller

So Last Week...Things I Read That Are Totally Worth Your Time

Happy Sunday! I feel like I'm finally over the holiday season and getting back into my regularly scheduled life. This week, I spent a lot of time trying to organize my closet. Take that as a hint for an upcoming post. Or perhaps I just mentioned this on my blog for the sake of accountability...

I also finally caught up on what’s going on in the world of fashion and beauty. Here are five posts I read that are totally worth your time.

Yahoo Style: 5 Stylish Non-Leather Bags

Miriam Porter is an expert in cruelty-free chic. Her picks for non-leather aka vegan leather handbags are stylish and affordable. Don’t forget, for every bag you buy, you get free bonus karma points.

The Cut: 25 Famous Women on Impostor Syndrome and Self-Doubt

Whether you are a woman or not, self-doubt happens to the best of us, even very accomplished people. This article will make you laugh, take a deep breath and realize, you aren’t the only one.

WWD: DVF Re-brands Under Chief Creative Officer Jonathan Saunders

WWD has everything you need to know about the re-branding of a fav label of mine, Diane Von Furstenberg.

Blush & Pearls: Shade Adjusting Drops By The Body Shop

Whether you accidentally bought the wrong color or you got tan on vacay, Blush & Pearls has found a solution for many of our foundation woes.

Quartz and Leisure: Snowstorm Chic

Being that I live in Los Angeles, I feel It’s Amanda Lauren is not your destination for staying warm and stylish at the same tine. But Quartz & Leisure just might be.

Holiday Travel: Carry On Bag Necessities

Welcome to December. Is it really the most wonderful time of the year if you have to go to the airport? In any other situation, a complete stranger yelling at you to take off your clothes and shoes is considered a violation. But, there is one way to try and tame travel stress (other than a valium and a glass of wine), which is to be equipped with a large carry on bag that has everything I need to make my flight more comfortable.

The Bag

I always travel with my MRKT Martin Travel bag. It has enough room for everything I need and more. I also use it on weekend trips. Made entirely of vegan felt and microsuede, it's stylish and durable enough to be squeezed under the seat.

Snacks Snacks Snacks

I always travel with tons of snacks because Terminal 3 at LAX, which is the only terminal I fly out of, literally has zero healthy food options. (Zero! If don’t believe me, read the Yelp reviews.)

I’m really into Perfect Bars right now. High in protein, they’re packed with superfood, non-gmo, gluten-free ingredients. They’re also filling, so I don’t end up eating junk food on the plane. My favorite flavors are Almond Butter and Maple Almond butter, which taste like spooning actual almond butter out of a jar, but in bar form. The Blueberry Cashew flavor is also pretty delicious. I usually bring extras so I can eat them for breakfast on the go.

I also love Heath Warrior Chia Bars. Between 100 and 110 calories each, these small, but mighty snacks have 1000mg of Omega-3, 4 grams of fiber and 3 grams of plant-based protein. There are several flavor choices, but my favorites are coconut and dark chocolate. They’re light, but filling, so they're good for before or after working out (which is something I try to do when I travel) or for those times when you know you're going to eat dinner in an hour, but you're starving.

Purely Elizabeth's Ancient Grain Minis are practically made for travel. Gluten-free, non-gmo and vegan, every bag has 2oz of ancient grain granola. You can mix into yogurt (which is readily available at most airports, even LAX) or pour milk right into the bag. It won’t leak, I promise.

Cashmere Wrap

When I’m on a plane, I either sweat like I’m taking a spin class or shiver like I’m in a cyrotherapy session. So, I wear a light top and carry a cashmere wrap. It’s a blanket and fashion accessory all rolled into one. The one I'm wearing in the picture is from Vince and I’ve had it so long, it's practically vintage.

Talbots currently has a beautiful cashmere wrap. While that store isn’t exactly one of my go-tos, there aren't many affordable cashmere wraps available this season. Cashmere doesn’t come cheap, but friends don’t let friends buy wool blends. Treat yourself. Traveling is hard enough.

Neck Pillow

61Xl1PdMDtL._SL1100_.jpg

I always try and catch a few zzzs on the flight, so a neck pillow is a must. Skip the ones they sell at the airport because they’re overpriced and generally mediocre. Instead prepare early and buy The World’s Best Neck Pillow. It’s comfortable, machine washable, cheap and apparently the world's best.

Decléor Aurabsolu Mist

Nothing makes your face feel gross quite the way re-circulated airplane air can. Decléor Aurabsolu Mist is travel friendly and smells like herbal heaven. You can also spray some on a cotton ball in place of your regular toner.

Thank you to Chin-Chin Hao for the beautiful photos.

F-IT Fridays: Your Weekly Dose Of Detail Therapy (Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Those 3 Days When Basically Everything Is On Sale Edition)

I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving and you're having an even happier Black Friday. I rarely shop at brick and mortar stores on Black Friday because I don't want to wake up early and save money on something I didn't want in the first place. I'm also short and fear I'll be killed in a trampling incident. I'd rather shop online and save my sanity. So, whether you are about to kick off your holiday gift shopping or just buy yourself a treat, here are some of my favorite items on sale this weekend, as well as deals I've found at some of my (and probably your) favorite stores.

Neiman Marcus Cashmere Collection Classic Long-Sleeve Cashmere Turtleneck

I love cashmere. It’s so luxurious and when it’s on sale, affordable. Turtlenecks are on every must-have list this season, so check out this fabulous sweater from Neiman Marcus. It is available in several colors as well as a plus size version.

Bloomingdales C By Angelina Solid Cashmere Scarf

No, you cannot have too much cashmere. This C By Angelina Solid Cashmere Scarf is classic so it will compliment any style outwear.

J. Crew Campbell Blazer in Crimson Plaid

J. Crew’s Campbell Blazer in Crimson Plaid is winter wonderfab. Wear it to dress up jeans on the weekend or to the office. Be prepared to have everyone annoy you with compliments. Oh, and everything is 40% off at J. Crew this weekend with the code HOLIDAY.

Alice and Olivia Mae Wide-Leg Pants

These Alice and Olivia wide-leg pants are a bold choice that is appropriate for many occasions from a holiday party to your office the next day (but hopefully not to both.) They're on major sale this weekend, as is nearly everything else, at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Splits59 Portia Leggings

If you didn't think activewear could be any sexier (and seriously, we all know it is), just add mesh panels. They're the cherry on top. This weekend, Splits59's Portia Leggings are 25% off (as is everything from Bandier) when you use code BF25.

F- IT Fridays: Your Weekly Dose of Retail Therapy (Travel Chic Edition)

Is this really "the most wonderful time of the year?" or are you dreading it? I find that even if my family doesn't drive me crazy, going to the airport will. If you're one of those people who is able to travel light, without running late or needing a glass of wine, good for you! I'm not one of those people. Instead, I choose to travel chic. Here are some of my favorite travel essentials.

Samsonite Electronic Luggage Scale

Do gate agents give you stink-eye for having overweight luggage? Avoid having to ask for a supervisor by weighing it in advance. Samsonite’s Electronic Luggage Scale is cheaper than excess baggage fees and fits right in your carry-on.

Gift Boutique Seek Explore Discover Luggage Tag Box Set

7df1363f6d945f096f449871023869e1.jpg

Think of luggage tags as necessities for your accessories. I love this set from Gift Boutique.

Diane Von Furstenberg Adieu Hardside Spinner Suitcase

If it's time to bid adieu to your current luggage, it might be time to say hello to Diane Von Furstenberg's Adieu collection.

Kate Spade New York Cedar Street Passport Case

Be a jet setter with this gorgeous passport case from Kate Spade New York.

B&O Play H6 Leather And Gold-Tone Headphones

Is there a more stylish way to ignore the person sitting next to you or your family than to listen to music or a podcast with these headphones from B&O?

F- It Fridays: Your Weekly Dose of Retail Therapy (Throw Blankets Edition)

Most of us have had a really challenging week in one way or another. It’s often during these times when we want to throw in the towel, throw our electronics out of a window (but please don’t) or just throw ourselves on the couch and cry. So, for this F-It Friday post, we're going to look at some stylish throw blankets because retail therapy helps. (Oh, and if retail therapy doesn't quite do the trick, here are some other things to try.)

Lulu likes to steal my throw.

Lulu likes to steal my throw.

This Burberry throw is beyond luxurious, but in a totally subtle way. And what could be softer than cashmere?

MISSONI SIMONE THROW

Missoni’s Simone throw is one of the more reasonably priced throws made by the legendary Italian label. Fun, but sophisticated, it adds color and texture to any couch or chair.

Fabulous, yet practical, this faux fur throw from Anthropologie is available in grey, white and navy.

NORDSTROM AT HOME GRAND CABLE THROW

No matter what style your home is, from traditional to modern, you can’t go wrong with a cable knit throw like this one from Nordstrom

THE WELL-APPOINTED HOUSE HERRINGBONE PLUSH FRINGED THROW

I love this herringbone throw from The Well-Appointed House. Available in sixteen different colors, it can be monogrammed or customized with a message. It also makes a great holiday or housewarming gift.

F- It Fridays: Your Weekly Dose of Retail Therapy (Holiday Outfit Edition)

I know, it’s Friday and you can’t even. I totally get it. Me too. Welcome to F- It Fridays: Your Weekly Dose of Retail Therapy. This week, we’re looking at holiday outfits.

It’s only November 4th, but the holidays are just weeks away. This means two things are inevitable. You’re going to have to RSVP yes to lots of events and most of your shopping for the rest of the year is going to be for other people. So, start shopping for yourself now before the madness begins. You can’t wear the same thing you wore last year because Instagram and Facebook and your mom’s Flickr account. You absolutely must buy yourself something new. Here are some suggestions.

Jill Jill Stuart Velvet & Lace Shirtdress

This Jill Stuart dress is a smart alternative to a cocktail dress for causal events where only a very polished look will do. And by that I mean, it’s freezing and you want to wear long sleeves and boots.

Leith Bell Sleeve Sheath Dress

Simple, but so chic, the color of this Leith dress really stands out. It’s also reasonably priced. I dare you to click on the link and find out how affordable it really is. Accessorize with a new statement necklace you bought with all the money you didn’t spend on this dress.

Reformation Adeline Dress

If you want to stun everyone when you walk into a room, you might not find a more interesting choice than this dress from Reformation. Seriously, make sure there is a defibrillator at the party because someone might have a heart attack when they seen how amazing you look.

Mara Hoffman Cross Front Jumpsuit

If you can’t decide between a little black dress, a pantsuit, or going naked, this beautiful Mara Hoffman jumpsuit is your happy medium.

Trina Turk Gizela Dress

Do you hate red, green and pumpkin spice lattes? Then Trina Turk’s pink Gizela dress is a fashionable way to say “Bah humbug.” Also, if you’re anything like me and can’t get enough Trina Turk, check out my post from earlier this week, From Dresses To Décor

F- It Fridays: Your Weekly Dose of Retail Therapy (Neutral Edition)

Welcome to F- It Fridays, a new series featuring some of my favorite finds of the week because F-It, It's Friday, you deserve a treat. This week, the theme is neutrals you’re going to feel not-so-neutral about!

MRKT Mateo Mini Backpack

Backpacks are back in a big way, even if they are little. The inside of MRKT’s Mateo Mini Backpack features lots of pockets including a removable media sleeve, so you can spend less time digging for your lone lip balm and more time being productive. Made of durable felt and vegan suede, it's equally stylish and practical.

Jac Vanek Perfect Cropped Sweater

I love Jac Vanek’s signature statement t-shirts, but this cropped sweater doesn’t need words to tell you how awesome it is. Wear it with your favorite pair of jeans or throw it over a cute dress on a chilly autumn night.

Pull&Bear Leather Look Biker Jacket

Pull&Bear's Leather Look Biker Jacket is a great example of how a nude color can really stand out. Although it is technically a fall piece, you'll look forward to wearing this jacket again in the spring.

BP Bell Sleeve Blouse

I love the bell sleeve look because it walks the fine line between elegant and boho. This BP blouse is a pretty ivory color that would look great accessorized with a statement necklace. Light colors not your thing? It is also available in green.

Yves Saint Laurent La Lacque Couture Les Grainés

503585766_1_TableTop.jpeg

You made it through another week, so at the very least, treat yourself to a new nail polish. Yves Saint Laurent's Taupe Grainé 53 is the perfect shade of taupe, packaged in a bottle so chic, you'll want to leave it out, instead of inside your medicine cabinet.

Slumber Party Series Part One: It's Pajama Time

Lulu (the little one), Milo (the big one) and I would like to welcome you to Slumber Party- a series all about sleeping in style. This first post is about one of my favorite things, pajamas!

I’m convinced pajamas actually help me sleep better because it’s hard not to relax after slipping on a pair. When I’m more relaxed, it’s easier to drift off. Also, much like the average five year old, if I like my PJs, I look forward putting them on early every night and getting to bed a little sooner. #PajamaGoals

Or perhaps I just want an excuse to hang with my dogs in bed.... Either way, here are some of my favorite PJs for the Fall season.

Fleur’t Modern Romance Tulle Inset Racerback Tank & Pant Set

Who says pajamas can’t be just as sexy as lingerie? I love this set from Fleur’t. The neckline is really unique for sleepwear, but the stitching underneath provides support. I’m also all about the bold color.

Hanro Eleonora Short Pajama

I’m not sure if these Hanro Pajamas are sweet or sexy. But, I do know like everything else this Swiss intimates brand makes, they’re luxurious and high quality. If you wear Hanro and take a selfie, there is an unwritten rule you have to include #Adulting.

Forever 21 Swan PJ Set

Forever21 is full of finds that look more expensive than they are. And yes, these are the PJs I'm wearing in my party pic. Made from a cotton and modal blend, they're even softer than Lulu after a bath.

Kate Spade New York Floral-Printed Pajama Set

This Kate Spade sateen fabric pajama set is classically styled with a long-sleeved button down top and pull on pants. The flower print is pretty and fun, but still sophisticated. It reminds me of the Hamptons.

BooHoo Rose Camo Floral Print Cami + Short PJ Set

Say “yay” to BooHoo. If you’re lusting after that Kate Spade flower print, but want something a little more affordable (seriously click on the link, it’s a steal), this short and camo set from Boohoo will satisfy your style and budget needs.

Betsy Johnson Heart Printed Top and Dolman Set

It’s hard to wear anything from Betsey Johnson and not instantly smile. The heart print is super cute without being childish. I also love that the top is long sleeved, but paired with shorts, so you don’t have to worry about being too warm or cold. The right temperature balance is key to getting a good night's sleep. So if you need an excuse to treat yourself, science.

Never Enough Sleep Pajamas

These adorable statement PJs from ASOS combine two things I really love, the truth and crop tops.

Skin Shadow Plaid Open-Shoulder Sleep Gown

So, this isn’t technically pajamas. But, I can't help but swoon over Skin's gorgeous sleeping gown. Beautiful, white and flowy, it’s the earth-mama alternative to lingerie.

I'm Saying It Now: Linen Pants Are The Sweatpants of Summer

I've been traveling around NYC and the Hamptons for the past two weeks. Two planes, four busses and many Uber rides later, I’m so happy to be home again. All of this schlepping has been quite exhausting and while comfort in fashion has never really been a priority for me, it was on this trip. I realized this when I was packing up the night before the final leg of my East Coast adventure, while I was choosing what to wear on the Hampton Luxury Liner back to the city. If you've never heard of the Luxury Liner and think it sounds like a fancy way to travel to Manhattan, let me clear things up. It's a slightly upgraded bus with wi-fi and leather seats. Their definition of luxury and mine (and probably yours) are slightly different. At the end of the day, luxury or not, busses generally aren't the most comfortable or chic way to travel, but that doesn't mean that what you wear can't be.

A chronic over packer, I searched through my suitcase to find something I really wanted to wear. I have beautiful, blue linen pants I bought in Italy approximately 100 years ago. It’s embarrassing to say, I’ve brought them on so many trips and they never end up leaving my suitcase. Finally, my Italian linen pants were going to have their day. Salut! Paired with a long grey almost tunic-length cotton tank, I found the perfect travel outfit. Almost luxurious…

At least by Hampton Luxury Liner standards (as opposed to red carpet, hotel pool or lazy brunch standards), I felt really put together. I could live in linen pants.

I so meme this!

I so meme this!

Just an FYI, after this borderline life-changing fashion revelation, a quick Google search showed I am not the first person to have this thought. I'm pretty sure (no pun intended) Hey Pretty Thing first had the idea in 2010. So, when you’re finished reading this and checking out my favorite linen pants  (and perhaps even treating yourself to a pair or two, just click on the images to shop), take a look at her site.
