Escaping Through Drugstores

Escaping Through Drugstores

Some people escape through drugs. I escape through drugstores. I can wander the aisles of a good one until my phone dies, even if I'm supposed to be doing something else. I've also found that any drugstore related activity is the best excuse to get out of nearly any situation. Seriously, no one ever questions a good drugstore lie. Here are a few of my go-tos and what they really mean.

I can get in some of my best quality alone time at the drugstore. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen too often because my neighborhood drug store is very basic (it's actually horrible, please get it together Larchmont Rite Aid).  But, put me a fancy Duane Reade in NYC and I can entertain myself for hours. Drugstores are a treasure trove for finding new beauty products without going into debt. Here are a few of my current faves. If you ever spot me crying in the aisles, it's because one or more of these has been discontinued (RIP Loreal Magic Nude Foundation), but that's another post all together....

Dessange Professional Hair Luxury Nutrition Elixir Deep Nourishing Mask

I love Dessange and there’s nothing I appreciate more than a good hair product under $9000. Dessange's newest hair mask ($13.99, so like 2.5 lattes) is designed to nourish and moisturize your hair, but not weigh it down and make it greasy. Just to warn you, your hair will look so fab people might come up to you on the street and want to know your secret. Hopefully, they aren't creepy, just jealous that you knew about Dessange before they did.

Omega Labs Nail Lacquer

So I might have fibbed just a little because Omega Labs Nail Lacquer isn't a drugstore product. But at $7, it's close enough. Sold online (well obviously) and at Sally's, it's professionally formulated without DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin or camphor, so it won't destroy your nails . But more importantly, their colors are trendy and fun.

Dove Shower Foam

I’m normally a Dove Beauty Bar kind of girl because I can go through bottles of body wash faster than cases of water. But Dove’s new Shower Foam is on its way to earning permanent shelf space on the side of my bathtub. It has a light, clean fragrance that's not overpowering and makes my skin super soft. But, the best thing about Dove Shower Foam is that a little product goes a long way. I don't need to use it by the gallon. A few pumps and I'm good to go.

Bioré Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips

Before the days of Dr. Pimple Popper, there was Biore. The little white strips dried on your nose and chin like paper mache. You ripped them off and count your gross blackheads. It was so satisfying! Now Biore has improved their pore cleansing strips by adding charcoal. This magical ingredient gets down to unclog your pores, making them appear smaller. And yes, you can still see your blackheads on the dark strip. Biore recently launched an entire charcoal line, but the strips will always have a special place in my medicine cabinet.

Wet n Wild MegaSlicks Balm Stain in A Stiff Pink

Wet n Wild MegaSlicks Balm Stain in A Stiff Pink is one of my favorite lip products ever. I found it on a whim, walking by the display. The perfect bright pink color caught my eye and it's been one of the great loves of my makeup case eyer since. It stays on for hours and unlike most lip stains, especially cheap ones, it's actually moisturizing.

ELF Translucent Matifying Powder

ELF sure gives you a whole lot for $2.99 with their Translucent Matifying Powder compact. This powder is light, natural and gets the job, keeping the shine off your face. The black compact is sophisticated and made really well. Seriously, I’ve dropped mine 75 times and the powder inside has yet to break. It comes with a bonus sponge applicator and generous sized mirror,  making it really easy to apply on the go.
