Spring Makeup 2018: Everything I'm Wearing

28763331_153754095443116_2993138064060055552_n.jpg

So last week, I shared the vanity area I created in my office. Having a Vanity Girl Hollywood mirror is a game changer. It’s the mirror equivalent of driving in the express lane to Flawlessville because bad makeup is the worst.

You know when you put on makeup in a place with bad lighting, you leave the house and people who love you approach you in an uncomfortable way and ask, “Can I be honest?”

UGH!

Then they tell your makeup looks like dog doo doo and that you’re about as blended as yesterday’s stale smoothie? If you have a Vanity Girl Hollywood mirror, THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. EVER!

So what am I applying to my flawless (or TBH, close enough) face? Here are all of my spring 2018 makeup go-tos.

1-3.jpg

(1) Miss A Paw Paw Charity: All About Eyes Brush Set + Brush Holder

I love this brush set because it comes with a pretty holder. The brushes are super soft, Instaperfect and it's under $11 for the entire thing. A portion of each purchase goes to help animals, so yay for extra karma points.

(2) Style Edit Blonde Perfection Root Touch Up

Style Edit is a hot mess prevention tool that lets you temporarily cover up your roots. But, it's not just for blondes—there are shades available for all hair colors.

(3) Coola Dawn Patrol Primer

I live and die for Retin A, but it makes your skin super sensitive to the sun, so I need to wear sunscreen every day. This primer and sunscreen combo feels so light, it’s like not wearing anything at all. I even use it without makeup.

(4) Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Priming Spray

I use this primer when I'm running late and don’t have that extra minute. The formula is ideal for oily and combination skin.

(5) Urban Decay Defense Complexion Primer

I might be addicted to primer. Please send help! But seriously, how is your foundation going to stay on without a good foundation?

(6) Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Flawless Serum Foundation

I love this foundation because it’s vegan and the coverage is very buildable. I wear it to the supermarket and for photoshoots. It's the only one I need.

(7) Supergoop! Invincible Setting Powder

With an SPF of 45, it’s a great way to re-apply sunscreen, and I love that the powder is built into the brush.

(8) Sweat Cosmetics Mineral Illuminator

Created by Olympic athletes, I’m obsessed with Sweat because I can wear it when I work out or go hiking. It's the most natural looking highlighter I've tried and very easy to apply with the built-in brush.

(9) Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist Broad Spectrum SPF 50

One of my fave new multi-taskers, Supergoop! is perfect for those long days when I don't have time for a makeup touch-up.

(10) Sweat Cosmetics Mineral Foundation SPF 30 Powder Jar

This stays put through spin class! Do I really need to say anything else?

(11) MMXV Infinitude Cream

This light moisturizer is great under makeup, absorbs quickly and feels like nothing on the skin. It also has a fresh scent. Bonus!

(12) Nars Orgasm

I just can’t quit this classic blush. I’ve been wearing it since high school and I have yet to stray. It also blends really well with a highlighter.

(13) Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Lip Glosses

These lip glosses have just the right amount of color and shine with a surprising amount of staying power. They also plump your lips in a way that feels fresh without burning. Why do so many lip plumpers burn? Ugh! All of that with a smooth, almost buttery texture. If you’re over liquid mattes or want something a little lighter, Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine lip glosses are available every color you could ever want.

(14) Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

Hands down, this is the best way to create a natural look. Every single color is usable, which is rare for any makeup palette.

(15) Urban Decay Backtalk Palette

I’m living for this eye/highlighter palette lately. It’s great for a bold look that works well on Instagram and IRL. If you like pinks and mauves, but are afraid to try them, Backtalk can help you create truly wearable looks. Just a head’s up—it’s limited edition, so buy one now! Maybe buy more than one. Not kidding.

(16) Beth Bender Beauty Highlighters

Did you hear Beth on my podcast? She has the best highlighters and I have them in LOTS of colors. I even use them on my eyes in a pinch.

(17) Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer

This concealer is a little spendy but it lasts forever. I’ve had mine for over two years with no end in sight. It’s the bottomless mimosas of makeup.

(18) Miss A Brush Egg

I use this tool to clean my brushes off in between washing them.

(19) Urban Decay Eyeshadow

Clearly, I'm Urban Decay for life!

(20) Beth Bender Eyeliner Gel

These liner gels were made for creating the perfect cat eye and they are so easy to use. If you have trouble creating a cat eye, check out Beth's stencils.

(21) Stoweaway Defined Volume Mascara

Perfect for a touch up on the go or for travel.

(22) Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

These eyeliners apply like butter, wash off like nothing, but stay on even through an episode of This is Us.  They are magic.

(23) Juice Beauty Phyto Pigment Ultra-Natural Mascara

I use this for an everyday natural look.

(24) Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat

This has all the right colors to create a perfect smoky eye.

Eight Ways Valentine’s Day Doesn’t Have To Suck or Pink Things I Love That You Should Buy Yourself Because It’s Totally Alright To Feel Awful Today

IMG_20180214_155732_911.jpg

Happy Valentine’s Day! Sorry, is this annoying? When I was single I hated Valentine’s Day because obvi. But even as someone who has been married for two wonderful years, I’m kind of not feeling V-Day this year. While nothing horrible is happening, everything has gone wrong. It started when my husband’s gift was delivered late and he ended up opening it accidentally. I love to surprise him and that pleasure was taken from me. I don’t know whether to cry or call the vendor and start screaming. Okay, I’m being dramatic, but then last night, our Netflix and Chill plans were foiled when we learned that the new season of Love was not being released on Valentine’s Day this year. While maybe we should have realized this sooner, the previous two seasons of the show have both debuted on Valentine’s Day. At least the trailer is out, but it’s not quite the same. So, this makes me realize that no matter who you are or what your relationship status is, Valentine’s Day can still suck. But it is also a great opportunity to practice self-care and self-love. Whether it’s buying yourself a treat below (I’ve found so many good ones) or treating yourself to Flywheel and Starbucks (I’m sipping some iced tea right now in my sweaty activewear), if you need to give yourself some extra love today or the only person you smooch is your puppy—that’s totally okay.

Note Cosmetics Lipsticks and Lipglosses

Note to self: Put Note Cosmetics on your radar. I’ve been really impressed with this line because it’s paraben-free, cruelty-free and so wallet-friendly it’s practically free (or like close enough). My lips are loving all of their pink and red lipglosses and lipsticks, but they have a full line of makeup.

Beth Bender Highlighters

bbb_princess_sweet_cheeks_1_2.jpg

I met Beth Bender IRL when she was on my podcast. She was such a doll and I was really impressed at the amount of work and how much of her personal touch she puts into making every product in her line. Sweeten Up and Pik Nik highlighters are my favorite pinks. Apply them using the fan brush and prepare to have your face game changed. I also use these highlighters instead of eyeshadow when I’m feeling lazy, which is often.

SPELA Liquid Mattes

Whether you are smooching another person or your pet, you what you put on your lips should stay on your lips. Applying lipstick should be fun, not another task you need to put on your to-do list. SPELA’s liquid mattes stay on strong but aren’t drying. Super rich in color, they are vegan, cruelty-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free and non-toxic! I mean, don’t eat it, but like go for that ice cream cone.

Urban Decay Naked3 Palette

urban-decay-naked-3-pakistan.jpg

I think I love Urban Decay’s Naked3 Palette as much as I love my dogs and cupcakes. Every single color is good. Like I feel seriously conflicted choosing which ones I want to use because they are all so good. It’s the right way to do pink eye makeup without looking like you have pinkeye or an unhealthy obsession with the 80’s.

Alacran Tequila Pink Limited Edition

22539978_1898740160166392_2703213996098606088_n.jpg

When all else fails, DRINK. Seriously, if you feel bad today, go out and get some Alacran Tequila. And do it guilt free because they donate 50 % of sales from their limited edition pink bottle to awareness breast cancer awareness charities. Made of 100% Weber Blue Agave tequila, it tastes smooth and delicious on the rocks, in a cocktail or if need be, straight out of the bottle (I’m not judging you).

Roxx Polish Rose Quartz Infused Vegan Lip Balm

I’m kind of obsessed with Rose Quartz lately because it’s the crystal of love and self-care. I give myself an extra dose every night. Before I go to bed, I alwasy I apply this lip balm to my lips. It also smells like candy.

Gretchen Christine Cassandra Credit Card + Coin Purse

Cassandra_-_Credit_Card_Coin_Purse-4_51678730-d554-4d31-b143-7d7fe5897186_1500x1500.jpg

You know when a whole wallet is a whole ordeal? That’s why I love this little Gretchen Christine credit card holder and coin purse. Made of pink vegan leather, it’s flanked by shiny gold card slots. It also has a ring to hold your keys. It’s a sweet little treat that makes life easier. And if you are being a #girlboss, it totally works as a business card holder.

Parfait Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra & Underwear

Can we talk about lingerie? It’s kind of magical. I’m sick of people thinking you should wear it for your partner! Wear it for yourself! I always feel so much better when I put on a sexy bra and panties. It radiates through me. Furthermore, as someone who needs extra support (I’m a D Cup), Parfait has me covered. I love the Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra and matching underwear because the look is a little retro.

18 Best Beauty Tips, Tricks and Hacks for 2018

New year! New you! Old cliché! I actually started writing this post in 2017 and probably should have posted it 26 days ago, so you'll have to forgive me. But these tips, tricks and beauty hacks will make up for my lack of organization. These are the best of my best tips and ones I really apply in my own life. All the time. From skincare to makeup to hair care, here are the game changers.

Skincare

Silk Pillowcases Aren’t A Luxury—They’re a Necessity

I don't care what your thread count is, cotton causes friction and absorbs moisture. Your skin and hair need all the moisture they can get. Silk pillowcases really help your skin stay soft and prevent hair breakage and frizz. You will notice the difference when you wake up in the morning.

Remove All Of Your Makeup By Double Cleansing

Check your hopefully silk pillowcases. If they are stained, you need to wash your makeup off better. Start with an oil cleanser. It will suck all everything from your face like a vacuum. Then continue with your regular cleansing routine.

You Don’t Need Super Pricey Facewash

Don’t hate me but I obsessed over my cleanser for years and spent way too much money on it. It’s important, but not as important as you think.

<

Wash Your Face With A Washcloth

Unless you are washing your face in the shower, don’t splash (and get water all over your bathroom). Instead, use a hot washcloth. That way your skin will be fully cleansed and it feels like mini facial. I personally use the ones from Amazon Basics. They’re soft and surprisingly high quality.

Your Products Don’t Work Because You Need To Exfoliate

Is that new product you bought not working? That’s because you aren’t exfoliating. Do it two or three days a week.

Serums Are Life

Serums will actually change your skin. No matter what your skincare type is, you need one.

Shut Up, I don’t Care What Your Skin Type Is, You Need To Moisturize

A of people are afraid to moisturize if they have combination or oily skin, but you need to reevaluate that belief. Sometimes your skin is oily because it is trying to balance itself out. When you apply moisturizer, your skin tends to CTFD.

Castor Oil Makes Your Lashes & Brows Bomb

Are you thinking about microblading or getting a prescription for Latisse? Try this natural alternative first. Before you go to bed, apply black castor oil (BLACK, not the regular kind) to your lash line and brows with a Q-tip.

Makeup

Light Is Life

If you can’t see your face properly, how are you supposed to apply your makeup? I have a Vanity Girl Hollywood Mirror and it’s a total game changer. There are several available in different sizes. They also have travel and tabletop mirrors in their pop-up store. If don’t believe me, ask Kim Kardashian. She has one. Also, the company’s chief boss babe, Maxine Tatlonghari was on my podcast.

Prime Prime Prime Your Face

You know those women who look perfect all of the time or at the very least still have a fresh face at 6:00pm? Don't hate them. Just use a primer. Apply after your moisturizer but before your foundation.

Prime Your Lashes

I love lash primer. It helps keep your lashes looking pretty and amps up your mascara game. It’s worth the extra 30 seconds this step adds to your routine.

Liquid Mattes Last Longer Than Most Relationships

Who has time to re-apply their lips? NOT ME. Liquid matte lipsticks tend to stay on forever. These days, I’m digging SPELA’s Spin, but they have lots of cute colors.

Set Set Set

Setting spray is just as important as primer. And it takes like 4 seconds to apply. You can even use it instead of powder.

Hair

Dry Shampoo Does Everything

Dry shampoo is like a personal assistant for your hair. It's great to apply to your roots after working out, during a hang over or if you just don’t have time for a full on wash. You can also use it to texturize your hair, cover up bad roots, or instead of hairspray.

Don’t Dry Your Hair With A Normal Towel

Don’t turban up your wet hair with the same towel you use to dry your body. Instead, use a towel designed for drying your hair specifically. The fabric is less harsh, the water will be absorbed better, leading to less drying time and less destroyed hair.

Use A Heat Protectant

Heat obviously damages your hair, but you probably aren’t going to stop using hot tools, so just protect your hair in the first place.

Red Eyeshadow Tutorial: A Pretty & Easy Holiday Look

IMG_4274.JPG

Red eyeshadow is a great holiday party look for Christmas, New Years Eve’s or just happy hour (if you’ve had a bad day, happy hour is considered a party). It’s a perfect trendy look for people who don’t normally do the trendy look thing because they are afraid of looking like an utter jackass. But red is super easy to apply, sexy and not as over the top as it sounds. Just don’t do it if you are wearing green. There’s only so much holiday spirit that is appropriate at one time.

The look I did was so pretty that even my husband noticed. I was actually so shocked when he said something that I tripped and nearly landed on my face. So I highly recommend you forewarn the people around you that there will be a whole lot of glowing going on.

Here are the steps I took to create this look.

Prime

Apply Laura Geller Spackle Tinted Under Makeup Primer in Champagne to your entire face. I know there are 9000 primers out there to choose from, but because Spackle is so moisturizing, it’s the best choice for winter skin.

Cover Up

Dot concealer under your eyes. My personal favorite is Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer Concealer and Foundation. Warning: This product is very concentrated—so first apply to your hand and then blend out.

Also, let’s keep a secret between us. This product is the bottomless mimosa brunch of concealer. My little jar has lasted 1.5 years with no end in sight.

Apply Foundation

Untitled_Session0909-v3_1024x1024.jpg

Blend out your foundation with a silicone blender to create a matte look. Because your eyes are bold and shiny, you don’t want to be too shimmery or dewy with the rest of your face. I like the MakeupDrop Silicone Makeup Applicator. If you’ve never used a silicone applicator before, the first few times you try it will feel like an alien is licking your face, but once you get used to working this way, it’s borderline life changing. I put a few drops of Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation on the applicator itself and take it from there.

Hone The Brow Bone

Apply an off-white matte shadow to your entire lid—brow bone to lash line. I’m wearing Blanc Type By MAC.

Layer Your Lid

Apply a light taupe shadow to your lid. I’m using the Morphe 350 Nature Glow Eyeshadow Palette. The shade I used us the second shadow down on the left side of the palette.

Color The Crease

35O_HERO_large.jpg

Then apply a shimmery red shadow to your crease and upper part of your lid. I’m using the second to last shadow in the Morphe palette.

Blend using a Beauty Blender or sponge.

Line The Lashes

Use a brown liquid liner on the top lash line. I like Shiseido Automatic Fine Eyeliner in Brown or Wet N Wild Proline Felt Tip Eyeliner in Dark Brown. (I know, very high and low end).

Apply a shimmery white liner to the bottom of your waterline. I used NYX Slim Eye Pencil in White Pearl here.

Shimmer And Shine

Apply a more shimmery red shadow over your lower lash line and blend out. You can do the entire length of your eye for a more dramatic effect. The color I chose here is from the Ardell Shimmer Pro Eyeshadow Palette.

Make Sure Your Brows Are Banging

Fill in your brows with a pencil or gel. I’m wearing Wunderbrow Brow Gel in Brunette (yeah, I’m a blonde but brow trends).

Love Your Lashes

Curl Your Eyelashes.

Apply lash primer. I use Radiant Complex.

Then apply mascara. I’m wearing L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara in Carbon Black. The brush is great because it helps you coat even those tiny, mini, sort of invisible lashes.

Check Your Cheeks

Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. I’m all about Nars Orgasm (for life).

Apply highlighter on top of the blush. I like Sweat Cosmetics Mineral Illuminator because the powder is built right into the brush, so it dispenses subtly and evenly.

Set It And Forget It

Finish off your look with setting spray. I used UncompliKated SPF 50 Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray by Kate Somerville to get that slightly airbrushed/IRL Pretty Filter look.

Love Your Lips

81G6p5cnvdL._SL1500_.jpg

I was terrified to try purple and now I’m obsessed with Laura Geller New York Color Luster Lip Gloss The Diamonds Top Coat Duo. This is the most beautiful purple I’ve ever seen. It has a rich, moisturizing feel and lasts longer than most glosses.

We interviewed reps from a handful of amazing brands including Kopari, Morphe, Tammy Taylor Nails, Pinkie Swear, Carol’s Daughter, Kate Somerville, Jergens, NYX and Beauty Blender (finally, a definitive answer on how to use those spongy things!).

One week later, we discuss our reflections from the event and what we realized is the easiest way to learn the best tips and tricks from all of your favorite brands. This is probably our most informative episode yet.

And yes, we recorded all of this in the VIP Room. Who do you think we are?

F-It Fridays: Prepare For Fall With Shiseido & Get A Free Gift For Adulting

image001-2.jpg

It’s that time of year again. The summer is ending, but it’s not quite fall yet. In just a few weeks the weather will change, which means your skin is probably going to go bonkers. Oily becomes dry and dry becomes desert-like. So it’s important to prepare yourself in advance. But don’t overthink it—just check out Shiseido instead.

The reason why I am suggesting that you prepare for Fall now is that Shiseido is going to reward you in a big way. With any $75 purchase, you receive an exclusive (who doesn’t love exclusive?) Hello Tokyo tote (pictured above) with a deluxe sample set. If that doesn’t sound exciting enough, you get to choose from five different sets, so you can actually use the right products for your skin concerns. When was the last time you were rewarded for adulting?

All of the sets contain everything you need for a full skincare routine. Also, how cute is the tote bag?

If you need some product suggestions, here are a few of my personal faves. But don't worry— everything from Shiseido is good.

0729238125582_Main.jpg

I’m obsessed with Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil. If you double cleanse, which I sometimes do, this is the first product you want to use in your routine. It’s formulated to remove sunscreen and foundation. So you can use it after a long day at the beach when you’ve reapplied your sunscreen 100 times or after sitting for eight hours with a face full of makeup at work (and let's be real—also happy hour). And if you’ve had too many cocktails to complete a full double cleanse before bed, don’t worry. You might be left with regrets from the evening (he was a jerk anyway), but you won’t be left with any excess product on your face.

0730852167049_Main.jpg

One of my other favorite Shiseido products is their Pureness Foaming Cleansing Fluid. I’ve been using it since high school. It’s not that I’m loyal (okay, maybe a little)—it’s that this cleanser is that good. It’s rich, foamy and makes your face feel squeaky clean. Plus, you only need a small amount (I use a quarter to half a pump), so it should last you until Thanksgiving(ish). So you can check buying cleanser off your list for a while, which means more time for cocktails and naps.

0730852191082_Main.jpg

Another fall essential is the Full Correction Lip Treatment. If the matte lipstick trend is making your lips dry AF, you need this product. Sorry, I don’t mean to be a downer, but it’s only going to get worse once it starts to get windy. You need to pay extra attention to your lips. The people you kiss will thank you for this.

So, seriously check out Shiseido now because the free gift offer only lasts until 8/27/17. Get your fall skincare taken care of, get a travel set, don’t have a fight with the TSA and look beautiful. You don’t have to thank me now for telling you this, but feel free to thank me when you don’t have to retouch your post Labor Day selfies.

*This was a partner post, but you all know I love Shiseido and have mentioned the brand several times on this blog already. Plus this offer is awesome and you need to know about it.

Still Exhausted: Best Of Beautycon 2017 Part I

Beautycon 2017 was such an incredible event. I still can’t believe how much fun it was and how many new products and brands I discovered. In fact, it’s way too much to cover one post, so I’ve decided to do this as a three part series including a podcast, which will go live on August 21st.

So many different brands came out to the event. I was familiar with many of them and there were others that I had literally never heard of. (I don’t know EVERYTHING). I spoke with so many experts who shared their best tips and tricks with me. Here are some of my fav products from the event and insider info that I just can't keep to myself. But then again, do I ever keep anything to myself?

Smashbox

I tried Smashbox’s Always On liquid lipstick in Shockaholic (I know, shut up). The color was so bold and really stayed on. It’s perfect for those nights when you are going to drink a lot and take selfies. You will be totally covered. No need to put down your cocktail to reapply.

Kate Somerville

I finally tried their Holy Grail product, ExfoliKate and it was exactly what I was missing in my skincare routine. As many of you know, I’m all about the retinol, but it’s made my skin peel like crazy. My face has needed some serious sloughing for weeks now. (Why do you think I haven’t posted that much on Instagram?)

ExfoliKate is a physical and chemical exfoliator in one. All you have to do is rub it in for 30 seconds and leave it on for two minutes. It’s way less of a commitment than a facial mask and actually works instantly. Seriously, I don’t want to say it’s magic but close enough. Also, I’m super sensitive and it wasn’t irritating at all.

I also tried UncompliKated Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray SPF 50. We all know how important sunscreen is. Blah, blah, blah, etc. This is a dream multitasker because it sets your makeup and gives you sun protection. It also takes seconds to apply. You can use it and stop complaining about how sunscreen messes up your foundation because this spray actually enhances your face.

Laneige

Laneige is a K-Beauty brand that is currently available from Sephora’s website and will be available at retail locations in the upcoming weeks. They are owned by fancy pants cosmetics company Amore Pacific. The brand has been around since 1994, which was way before K-Beauty was a thing, so you know it’s got to be good.

They gave me a sample of their Water Sleeping Mask, which I almost don’t want to use because the packaging is too pretty. Apparently, they also have a Lip Sleeping Mask and I’m kind of dying to try it. My. Lips. Are. So. Dry. Too many matte lipsticks.

Morphe

I first discovered this brand in Ali’s bathroom (not even a joke) and I am now obsessed. Morphe makes the most gorgeous eyeshadow palettes I’ve ever seen. They have multiple textures including shimmery and matte in one palette, which is not the norm for most palettes. The entire line is very affordable, but also lux, which we all know never happens.

Morphe gifted me an entire kit and I can’t wait to try everything. Trust me when I tell you to keep this brand on your radar and when they are everywhere like rompers at a BBQ, you can take credit for knowing about Morphe before it was a thing.

Carol’s Daughter

I was under the wrong impression about this brand. I thought their products were only for black skin and hair. BIG MISTAKE! As someone with painfully dry, curly hair, I regret not investigating Carol’s Daughter earlier.

At the event, I was able to try their Almond Cookie Shea Soufflé. It has the nicest creamy texture and smells like heaven. But I was hankering to try their hair products, so I actually went to the drugstore and picked up the Almond Milk Ultra Nourishing Hair Mask. It made my hair so soft and smelled amazing.

Usually, quality hair products don’t smell good. Why is that? Can someone please explain why the shampoo from the 99 Cents Store smells like Heaven and $99 shampoo smells like car exhaust combined with rotting fruit? But seriously, this hair mask smells like sugared almonds from a candy store. I really want to try the entire Carol’s Daughter line.

Croc

Not the shoes. Also, ew. Croc flat irons are awesome. They gifted me their Plug Iron, which has a detachable cord. I love the idea of a detachable cord because I can’t tell you how many times I’ve melted my hair tool cords. (My fault!) Although the Croc is small, it’s mighty and heats up to 410°. I used it at home and I actually prefer it to my larger flat iron. That being said, I really want to try their Infrared flat iron.

Stay tuned for the podcast and Part II next week!

Around The World In 80(ish) Products: Global Beauty In France

Welcome to the second post in Around The World in 80(ish) Products. Today, we’re going to talk about French beauty. I’ve always had a love for France especially when it comes to products, just tell me something is French and I automatically love it. French beauty is all about being subtle. It doesn’t try to create something that isn’t there so much as enhances what you already have. French style is sophisticated, yet simple. French women never look like they are trying too hard, which is the exact opposite of how many American women approach beauty. Here are some of my favorite French products and brands.

Paul & Joe Beaute

Did you know that French clothing brand Paul & Joe has the most wonderful makeup line? I’m obsessed with their foundations because they feel light and provide just enough sheer coverage. If you are one of those people who spends 45 minutes making it look like you spent five, Paul & Joe will change your life, or at least your routine, so that’s close enough.

One of the most unique products is the Gel Foundation N, which comes in a compact with its own blender, so you can apply it faster than you can say “La tour Eiffel.” I love this for travel or if I want to touch up on the go.

I also like the Moisturizing Fluid Foundation for a bit more coverage. Like the gel, the liquid is super light, but has SPF 25, making it a good choice for those warm days when you plan to sip rosé at an outdoor café for hours.

After applying your foundation of choice, finish the look with Limited Edition Gel Blush. It’s a cushion formula, so no brush is needed. Then top with the Pressed Powder.

I also can’t not talk about Paul & Joe’s gorgeous packaging. My favorite is the foundation bottle. It’s so pretty, I feel like it belongs on the vanity of a princess. The Gel Foundation and Powder cases will also make you feel like royalty and they come with extra karma points because they’re refillable. Pro tip: avoid touching up in a public place because you will be continuously be approached by people complimenting your French style.

Bioderma

p_550x550-3.jpg

Bioderma is a French skincare brand that has lots of affordable products. You might have heard of the brand before because they put Micellar Water on the map. But, my personal hero products are the Atoderm Shower Gel and Atoderm Shower Oil.

I personally find many American shower gels and oils to be overly scented and drying. Both of these products have a light ocean-like scent that won’t interfere with your perfume or other products.

If you hate using shaving cream like I do, swapping it out for the shower oil will help your razor glide. It also rinses off easily, so you don’t have to worry about slipping in the bathtub, which is a terrifying thought if there is a razor in your hand. Don’t ask…

L’Occitane

L’Occitane is one of my favorite brands of all time. As someone with super dry hands, their Shea Butter Hand Cream is the only hand cream I ever use (EVER). Not to be gross, but my hands literally crack and bleed in the winter, staining any kind of winter white, so this product is pretty much a medical necessity for me. It’s available in a range of scents including Vanilla (très yummy), Cherry Blossom, Peony and Verbena.

Nars

Nars is my go-to brand for makeup. I’ve been wearing their Orgasm blush forever and yes, I still feel awkward asking for it at store. I also love the Cruella Velvet Matte Lip Pencil because it is literally the perfect shade of red. Haven’t we all been looking for the perfect red lipstick since forever? Once you find Cruella, your search is over.

Bourjois

Bourjois is a French brand that has been around since 1863. It used to be owned by Chanel and made in the same factory, but it was bought out by American company Coty in 2015. While it’s not available in US stores anymore (or at least I haven’t been able to find it), you can still buy it online. Coty people, if you are reading this, BRING BACK BOURJOIS, s'il vous plaît!

I first discovered Bourjois at the Sephora on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. In retrospect, it’s kind of cheesy, but this makeup brand somehow remains close to my heart. When I lived in England, I used to buy it at my favorite drugstore, Boots, all of the time.

One of the brand’s most iconic products is the Little Round Eyeshadow Pot. It has the most perfect crème to powder finish and blends so easily.

Hèrmes

If you can’t afford a Birkin or Kelly bag, Hèrmes Kelly Calèche perfume might be the next best thing. Just one spritz makes you feel like a rich, Parisian supermodel. Whenever I wear it people always come up to me and ask what perfume I’m wearing. It’s annoying, but they can’t help it. I totally understand.

Sisely Paris

Sisley Paris Kohl Star can’t be compared to any other eyeliner. It’s a classic black pencil that has glittery flecks that bring out your eyes like magic. While I’m not always a fan of glitter, this pencil is understated and underrated. You can wear it to the office or date night. It goes on smooth and stays beautifully. I’ve tried other eyeliners that have glitter, but nothing compares to what Sisley can do. Trust me, it’s worth the price!

By Terry

By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Sun Glow is one of the best multitaskers. It’s like a BB Cream, CC Cream and bronzer all rolled into one like a delicious croissant, but for your skin. It blurs your imperfections, gives you a pretty tan that’s not fakey-looking and contains anti-aging ingredients. Only the French would find a way to simplify all of these steps into one. Sometimes, I don’t use it on my entire face, but apply as a highlighter or liquid bronzer instead.

F-it Fridays: Summer Product Loving

Happy Friday! With summer in full swing, I’ve been switching up my beauty routine. Here are some game-changing beauty products to help you beat the heat this summer.

Drybar Hold Me Hair Clips

NO STRANDS LEFT BEHIND! DryBar Hold Me clips are like having a personal assistant who holds back your hair. They make blowouts so much easier and don’t cause bumps or damage like a rubber band can. I’ve even worn them to Pilates because they don’t dig into your scalp.

But I must give credit where it is due. I discovered these magic clips through Lauryn Evarts and her classic sleep bun post. Btw, if you are a Skinny Confidential fan, check out our podcast with Lauryn and Michael.

Living Proof Prime Style Extender

You know when you do a great job styling your own hair and then you wake up the next day looking like you stuck your finger in an electrical outlet? Living Proof Prime Style Extender prevents that. After towel drying, apply this product and comb through. Then wait a few minutes and apply your regular hair oil or styling product. Your blowout lasts longer, so you do not have to wash or re-style as often.

Sweat Mineral Foundation Powder Jar

jar_2_1024x1024.jpg

I’ve written about Sweat sticks before and even interviewed the amazing female athletes who started this line, but their new powder jar has changed my summer. The jar makes it super easy to apply this SPF 30 mineral foundation with the brush of your choice, in seconds. No more waiting for sunscreen to absorb or using a blender to apply foundation. I like to wear it on days when I workout and to outdoor events like BBQS where I need to protect my face, but don’t want to wear a ton of makeup. It's also nice that my eyes don't burn from dripping sunsceen.

Pevonia Lumafirm Lift & Glow Eye Contour

Who wants a heavy eye cream during the summer? Not me! That’s why I’m obsessed with Pevonia Lumafirm Lift & Glow Eye Contour. It has a super light texture and fresh scent. Made with watermelon fruit extract, this product couldn’t be anymore summer appropriate if you tried.

Foreo Iris

If you’ve tried everything to get rid of puffy eyes to no avail, then you need to stop crying about it (also crying does NOT help) and pick up Foreo’s Iris device. It massages your under eye bags away, increases circulation, and helps eye cream or gel work better. Use it for just a minute a day.

Paul & Joe Gel Blush

French brand Paul & Joe has an absolutely beautiful cosmetics line. One of my favorite finds is the Gel Blush. You apply it with a light touch of your fingertips. The product feels so light and airy. It’s perfect for daytime when you want a subtle color on the cheek.

Bioderma Photoderm After Sun SOS

There’s nothing like a cooling after sun spray post beach or pool. I love Bioderma Photoderm After Sun SOS. It’s easy to apply and never has a sticky or gummy texture. The fresh scent makes me feel clean even if I still have sand in inappropriate places. It also really prolongs my tan in a noticeable way.

So Last Week... Things I Read That Are Totally Worth Your Time

I’d say happy Sunday, but Sunday is almost over. It might even be Monday where you are, but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t enough time to click around and enjoy several things from around the web that I didn’t write.

Into The Gloss: Natasha Lyonne

If you didn’t know, Natasha Lyonne has been my biggest girl crush since high school. Her unique look is sexy and just a little bit gritty. In this interview, Natasha shares her beauty routine and favorite products. I’m bookmarking this post for life!

Real Simple: Frosé Recipe

If you like rosé and mixed drinks, then frosé will be your new favorite summer beverage.

Blush & Pearls: 10 Foundation Mistakes You Might Be Making

Foundation is the foundation of your look. If you are shopping for a new foundation this summer or your current one just doesn’t seem to look right anymore, Blush & Pearls has some great tips to keep in mind.

Apartment Therapy: AT Writes An Episode Of House Hunters

If you are as obsessed with the HGTV show as I am, you will actually laugh out loud reading this. Warning: don’t click on the link in a public place because strangers will stare at you.

Fashvo: Timeless Bags That Never Go Out Of Style

I want all the bags! If you’re thinking of investing in a designer handbag, any one of these is totally worth the price.

Things We're Too Lazy To Blog About: With Special Guest Annabelle DeSisto

unnamed-8.jpg

We welcome our first guest for episode 4, the brilliant and hilarious Annabelle DeSisto of the Adderall and Compliments Podcast. If you’re an A&C Kitten, thank you for listening, we love you.

In this episode we discuss how amazing Annabelle’s hair is (to a nearly obsessive level), Joan Rivers (Annabelle’s former boss), Postmates, why needing cash is a complete nightmare, Kim Kardashian, The Drybar Book and compare the post-jail styles of Paris Hilton and Teresa Giudice.

But we mostly talk about our collective favorite docu-series The Real Housewives. Specifically, Dorit Kemsley, Kyle Richards, caftans, how Kim Richards ruins everything, Lisa Rinna, Kim Zolciak vs Erika Jayne, Bethenny Frankel’s hustle and Sojna Morgan’s townhouse. Ali spills all about styling Lisa Vanderpump and what it’s really like at Villa Rosa. Spoiler Alert: Giggy is alive.

However, if you aren’t a Housewives person, we also dish on lots of other things including  Scheana  Shay from Vanderpump Rules, Lilly Pulitzer dresses, plastic surgery, CoolSculpting, being an only child, Amanda’s Gossip Girl life, staircases, marble flooring, bidets, Queer as Folk and vagina juice.

Annabelle also shares an inspirational story about how one of the Kittens bought her crystal kit and won the lottery!

So Last Week: Ciao Manhattan/It's Getting Personal Edition

Happy(ish) Sunday! It’s time for So Last Week.

I try to keep things light here, but I didn’t have an easy weekend. I’m only deciding to write about it because I think so many lifestyle blogs are overly aspirational and lack honesty about real life. There’s a reason why I say this is a blog for people with “imperfect hair and sometimes unmade beds.” Before you think I’m about to throw myself a pity party because I’ve had a rough few days, that’s not what I want at all. I’m very well aware of how privileged and lucky I am. But sometimes, even first world problems hurt and my weekend was ruled entirely by one. On Friday, my parents moved out of the home I grew up in. I know this is part of adulthood, but it doesn’t change the fact that I feel a bit heartbroken. I’m not sure I will ever be the same.

The thing about growing up in New York is that you’re always a New Yorker no matter what. I’ve lived in Los Angeles for nine years and as Californicated as I’ve become, I’m also every cliché in articles like this one, except for the fact that I don’t like bagels or the subway. If you were wondering, I prefer croissants and Via. Being a New Yorker is almost like an option that should be listed in the race/ethnicity section on a form. It is who you are. I think only real New Yorkers can understand what I mean. But, now maybe my NY card has finally expired. I still have friends and family in the city, but no roots. All I wanted to do was mourn the loss of real estate (I know, so first world), but I couldn’t cry about this all weekend because I was afraid to cry alone. Coincidentally, everyone I love was gone this weekend.

My husband had a bachelor party in Nashville and 99% of my close girlfriends (those I can cry around) were out of town. It was really strange. I couldn’t help my emotions from creeping up. I worked out, made the bed, went food shopping and walked the dogs. Perhaps this was the longest period I’ve been by myself in over three years.

So, for two days, which felt like an eternity, I distracted myself the only way millennials know how. By disappearing into click holes and binge watching seasons of a show everyone else watches, but that I just discovered. And I’m pretty sure tonight, I’m going to mess up a whole lot of mascara to make up for it. Ciao Manhattan! I’ll miss you.

If you need to be distracted, here are some good places to start.

The List: The Untold Truth Of Bath & Body Works

Want to know a ton of secrets about Bath & Body Works? I dish (yep, I wrote this one) everything like the TMZ of mall stores. If you’re wondering, I’m not exactly a fan of their beauty line, but I’m obsessed with Wallflowers because most plug-ins smell like a gas station.

Jovani: Celebrity Stylist Ali Levine Shares Star Style Secrets

As always, my very good friend Ali Levine delivers the goods. Also, if you haven’t read my interview with her from 2016, you should.

Byrdie: I Tried The Bizarre Lipstick Hack Jude Law's Daughter Swears By

I don’t want to spoil this, but I think this trick might just actually be life changing. I can’t wait to try it after I stop crying. So, hopefully by Wednesday.

Well+Good: Taking A Hot Bath May Be Just As Good For You As Working Out

If this is true, I’m about to hop into one right now.

Beauty Multitasking With VOLANTE

Do you want to know a really big skincare secret? Like, blow your mind, click bait headline, WTF kind of secret? Okay, let’s start with an analogy. Imagine you’re trying to return something to a store. You approach customer service and the clerk ignores you. After trying to get her attention, you become so frustrated, you raise your voice.  The clerk continues to do nothing. Then, you threaten to write a mean Yelp review. Crickets. At the end of your rope, you ask for a manager. She turns around because you’ve finally irritated her into submission. She accepts the return and gives you a refund. So what does this have to do with skincare? Here’s the secret. It turns out that this is how so many anti-aging skincare products work. They reverse the signs of aging by irritating your skin. Wouldn’t everything be easier and less painful if we could get the results we want and skip the whole irritation part?

When Dr. Elizabeth Vanderveer was developing her VOLANTE skincare line, she thought the same thing. While most doctors formulate their products with chemical ingredients, Dr. Vanderveer took a different approach, using a natural blend of botanicals called 7VITAE. This patented formula is made from aloe vera, arnica montana, bromelain, calendula, daisy, flower, grape seed and zinc aka things you can actually pronounce. It’s also paraben, petroleum oil, mineral oil, sulfate, gluten, as well as synthetic fragrance and cruelty free.

Every VOLANTE product contains high concentrations of 7VITAE line and is designed to multi task by reversing the signs of aging, soothing and rejuvenating your skin. Here are a few of my favorites.

Healer Concealer

VOLANTE’s Healer Concealer is makeup and skincare combined into one product. It’s especially good for the sensitive under eye area, which can easily become irritated by harsh products. (It also works as a substitute for eye cream on those mornings when you are in a rush to get out, but you didn’t hear that from me.) Now, let’s discuss the “healer” part. When you apply this product to inflamed skin, it heals 50% faster than it would on its own. Protip: A little goes a long way. Put a little bit on your fingertips and rub them together to warm up the product and apply from there. You can also use a damp beauty sponge for layering.

Radiant Youth Firming Crème

Confession: As someone with combination skin, I was terrified to try anything with the word “crème” in it because crèmes generally make my skin oily. However, because VOLANTE is formulated for all skin types, I decided to give the Radiant Youth Firming Crème a try. It actually balanced out my skin and because you only need a very small amount, it didn’t feel heavy at all. It also does things you didn’t think a moisturizer could do including firm, exfoliate and prevent future signs of aging. Another thing that’s great about this product is that it’s formulated for both AM and PM use, making it a budget friendly option.

Transformative Eye Crème

TransformativeEyeCreme.jpg

VOLANTE’s Transformative Eye Crème does everything. It takes care of all under eye issues including lines, circles and sagging skin. I also love that it is packaged in a jar, so nothing is wasted and it’s easy to control exactly how much you use.

Radiant Glow Firming Body Serum

Want your body to look as fabulous as your face? Radiant Glow Firming Serum is the product to use. It helps with cellulite, sagging skin and loss of radiance. It works anywhere. I like to use it on my hands because they’re starting to age from too many gel manicures. I’m also a fan of the glass apothecary bottle.

To check out the rest of the VOLANTE line, visit their website.

Escaping Through Drugstores

Some people escape through drugs. I escape through drugstores. I can wander the aisles of a good one until my phone dies, even if I'm supposed to be doing something else. I've also found that any drugstore related activity is the best excuse to get out of nearly any situation. Seriously, no one ever questions a good drugstore lie. Here are a few of my go-tos and what they really mean.

I can get in some of my best quality alone time at the drugstore. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen too often because my neighborhood drug store is very basic (it's actually horrible, please get it together Larchmont Rite Aid).  But, put me a fancy Duane Reade in NYC and I can entertain myself for hours. Drugstores are a treasure trove for finding new beauty products without going into debt. Here are a few of my current faves. If you ever spot me crying in the aisles, it's because one or more of these has been discontinued (RIP Loreal Magic Nude Foundation), but that's another post all together....

Dessange Professional Hair Luxury Nutrition Elixir Deep Nourishing Mask

I love Dessange and there’s nothing I appreciate more than a good hair product under $9000. Dessange's newest hair mask ($13.99, so like 2.5 lattes) is designed to nourish and moisturize your hair, but not weigh it down and make it greasy. Just to warn you, your hair will look so fab people might come up to you on the street and want to know your secret. Hopefully, they aren't creepy, just jealous that you knew about Dessange before they did.

Omega Labs Nail Lacquer

So I might have fibbed just a little because Omega Labs Nail Lacquer isn't a drugstore product. But at $7, it's close enough. Sold online (well obviously) and at Sally's, it's professionally formulated without DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin or camphor, so it won't destroy your nails . But more importantly, their colors are trendy and fun.

Dove Shower Foam

I’m normally a Dove Beauty Bar kind of girl because I can go through bottles of body wash faster than cases of water. But Dove’s new Shower Foam is on its way to earning permanent shelf space on the side of my bathtub. It has a light, clean fragrance that's not overpowering and makes my skin super soft. But, the best thing about Dove Shower Foam is that a little product goes a long way. I don't need to use it by the gallon. A few pumps and I'm good to go.

Bioré Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips

Before the days of Dr. Pimple Popper, there was Biore. The little white strips dried on your nose and chin like paper mache. You ripped them off and count your gross blackheads. It was so satisfying! Now Biore has improved their pore cleansing strips by adding charcoal. This magical ingredient gets down to unclog your pores, making them appear smaller. And yes, you can still see your blackheads on the dark strip. Biore recently launched an entire charcoal line, but the strips will always have a special place in my medicine cabinet.

Wet n Wild MegaSlicks Balm Stain in A Stiff Pink

Wet n Wild MegaSlicks Balm Stain in A Stiff Pink is one of my favorite lip products ever. I found it on a whim, walking by the display. The perfect bright pink color caught my eye and it's been one of the great loves of my makeup case eyer since. It stays on for hours and unlike most lip stains, especially cheap ones, it's actually moisturizing.

ELF Translucent Matifying Powder

ELF Translucent Matifying Powder.jpg

ELF sure gives you a whole lot for $2.99 with their Translucent Matifying Powder compact. This powder is light, natural and gets the job, keeping the shine off your face. The black compact is sophisticated and made really well. Seriously, I’ve dropped mine 75 times and the powder inside has yet to break. It comes with a bonus sponge applicator and generous sized mirror,  making it really easy to apply on the go.
